February 2006

Especially for Tourism Professionals

Next month, I will begin writing another electronic newsletter each month. This one will be geared to Tourism Professionals and groups forming Agritourism Associations.

Here's what I'm finding. As I travel the country, I continue to learn more about what other states and regions are doing to organize their efforts for agritourism. Since we all have very similar objectives, an electronic newsletter may be the perfect way for all of us to share ideas and grow faster.

If you know tourism professionals that should know about "what's happening" in other states for agritourism - please forward this newsletter to them.

To subscribe to “AgriTourism Pro: Tourism News for Agritourism Professionals",

Enter your email address, and after you submit it, another form will ask you to indicate your category of interest.

Please check "Tourism Professional", and then look for our first edition in the next few weeks.

More About Eckert AgriMarketing

Now is the time to develop a photo contest for your farm!

Why?

You need great pictures to promote your business!

If you have heard my speeches this winter-or you have read my articles or books about website development - you already know that I strongly believe that photo's can sell the experience of our farms and ranches much better than copy.

Furthermore, the media often ask you for photos to use with a story that they are writing about you. Even if you pitch the story to them, you can enclose a photo with a press release, making the story that much more inviting to the editor.

Why a photo contest? Why can't I just take pictures myself?

I know you all have good intentions of taking photos, but the best time to take them is when you are your busiest. Frankly - who has the time?

Besides, parents and grandparents have a much better opportunity to get their kids to cooperate than you - a stranger to them.

You will be the big winner!
Really, a photo contest is, I believe, the best way to get good photo's for you to use on future marketing materials. Your guests are already taking pictures at the farm, so why not let them enter their pictures in a contest for prizes.

Your rules for the contest should state that in order to win, they must sign your photo release granting you full use of the photos for any and all of your promotional purposes including: brochures, postcards, billboards, press releases and yes, even your website.

You'll need to create a brochure or flyer to explain your contest, but really that's pretty simple. The brochure should be available at your market and near your checkout locations, and you should also put them in your school tour packets. The more people that know about your photo contest the better-you'll have that many more great photos to choose from.

Eckert AgriMarketing Wins Newsletter Merit

The Kansas AgriTourism News, a monthly newsletter produced by Eckert AgriMarketing for the state of Kansas, was awarded the Merit Award for Electronic Publications by The National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA), in a regional competition.

Only two awards were presented in this category, the Merit Award, won by Eckert AgriMarketing, and the first place award, which went to the John Deere Agricultural Marketing Center.

Not bad for a farm girl from Southern Illinois! Let me know if you would like us to do a newsletter for you.
